U.S. stocks offer opening retreat ahead of FOMC

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks started lower on Tuesday after two days of gains as investors readied for the afternoon release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's last policy meeting. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 37.72 points to 10,935.83. The S&P 500 Index declined 3.75 points to 1,183.69. The Nasdaq Composite Index lapsed 9.26 points to 2,420.27.
